After the hurricane, my mother and I gathered up
scrap wood from her neighborhood in Metairie, my
brother's neighborhood in Lakeview, and other
locations around New Orleans. I love the idea of
taking ugly, damaged things and turning them into
something beautiful and meaningful. Also, people who
view and enjoy my art tell me their stories from
Hurricane Katrina. Every story is unique, just as every
painting is unique.
